The time has passed when the kitchen, sweep and clothing washing were considered only the responsibility of women. According to new research, men are now active on this front of domestic life and this change is not just a story of a few years but the result of a decades of evolutionary journey.
The latest research by Professor Melissa Maliki, a leading Economist at the University of Toronto, indicates the trend that married men are now participating in more domestic works than in the past.
This research has not only highlighted significant changes in social attitudes but also stated that gender balance is now not just a slogan but a practical form.
According to data from the ‘Time Uts Survey’ conducted in the United States, married women from 2003 to 2005 used to spend an average of 4.2 hours every week in cooking, cleaning and other domestic affairs, while the only time for them for these tasks was just 1 hour. But in the recent survey of 2022 to 2023, this difference has decreased significantly. Now women work for 2.5 hours of household for an hour of each married man.
This difference has not only diminished over time, but has also given a new dimension to the global dialogue regarding gender roles.
Professor Melissa Malik says that we have now entered an era where even men do not hesitate to traditionally considered women. It is a quiet but powerful change that is embedded in the depths of society.
Research has also shown that this difference was much deeper in the past. In the 1960s, married women used to spend 7 times more time on domestic work than their husbands.
By the mid -1990s, the gap has decreased by about 2 times and today, the gap has decreased by 40 %, which is a historical milestone.
This breakthrough is nothing short of a good news for gender equality pioneers, but scholars do not agree that this change is moving towards a complete gender revolution or that the process has come to a halt.
Many experts call this change a need for time, especially in an era when women’s economic and social partnerships are increasing and domestic responsibilities are no longer limited to just one gender.
Experts say that if this trend persists, in the future, the same balance will be seen inside the house we want to see in workplace today.
Now it is the responsibility of both men and women to not only help each other but also set the example of equality and partnership for future generations.
